In early February 2024, Nicholas Ho, 19, had his first semi-viral YouTube video — "We Played a Game of EXTREME TAG across SINGAPORE" — where he and friends staged an island-wide rendition of the American travel competition series Jetlag. The video climbed to 11.5 thousand views and drew praise from fans of the original series. But things were not always like this.
Nicholas started his content creation journey at ten years old, making YouTube videos about Minecraft and Roblox. Over time he shifted toward lifestyle and vlog content — following his interests wherever they led.
"I kind of lost interest in what I was doing along the way. When I was younger I was more into gaming. But after a while, I kind of lost interest in that."
— Nicholas HoEven with the content switch and a consistent upload schedule, his videos were still pulling fewer than a hundred views. He experimented with trending ideas — including a KFC mukbang he now deeply regrets — and his dreams of becoming a full-time creator slowly faded.
"When I was younger, I always wanted to do content creation full-time. But now that I'm getting older, I'm starting to realise that it's not very realistic."
— Nicholas HoAfter two to three months of planning, shooting and editing, he uploaded the Extreme Tag video without much expectation — maybe 100 to 200 views. It hit 11.5k.
"It was quite rewarding to see the viewer count increase bit by bit. Because I actually put in a lot of work — from pre-production to filming to post-production."
— Nicholas HoHis next video — a Johor Bahru vlog — pulled 2,200 views. After that, numbers returned to where they had been. What surprised me was that Nicholas wasn't disheartened.
"I have kind of come to terms that I might never really make it big. I primarily create content as a means of documenting my life and the memories I make, despite the outcome."
— Nicholas HoBeyond content creation, Nicholas studies Media Communication Management at Nanyang Polytechnic and hopes to become a branding or content strategist. He has no plans to stop posting. As odd as this sounds, he gets uncomfortable when he doesn't document a special moment. I wish him the best in whatever he does.

I'm a Year 2 student at Singapore Polytechnic and I make things — photos, scripts, videos, stories. I'm drawn to the moments that aren't staged: the quiet ones, the in-between ones, the ones that disappear if you're not paying attention.
My journalism work comes from the same instinct. I'm interested in the angle that isn't the obvious one — the detail that reframes everything, the quote the subject almost didn't say. I shoot on a Sony A7 III and edit in Premiere Pro.
In 2022 I placed 3rd in the DrugFreeSG Video Competition — my first real taste of making something with stakes. Currently Year 2, building the portfolio, always chasing the next good story.
